Our Sourcing Pledge

We know that food tastes better naturally, at Mrs Rogers we believe we have a duty to stay at the forefront of initiatives that take care of our planet as well as the people we help feed. Thatโ€™s why for 20+ years, we have ensured our products are packaged in the least harmful way possible.

Adopting natural, unbleached card, vegetable-based inks and where possible, home compostable* bags for our herbs and spices has seen us become a leader in our category, minimising our footprint while ensuring that the taste of our ingredients remains fresh for you to use at home.

We know thereโ€™s always more to do in this space, and that we are not perfect, but we are proud of the positive impact we've made and the progress we continue to make every day.

Our Packaging Approach

At Mrs Rogers, weโ€™re committed to making
our packaging as sustainable as possible, using innovative design to encourage
recycling and home composting wherever we can.

Youโ€™ll recognise us by our distinctive
little brown cardboard boxes. As well as being an iconic identifier of the Mrs
Rogers brand on the store shelf, they help reduce our environmental impact.

What we use

  • Home compostable* bags (where suitable)
  •  Recyclable cardboard packaging
  • Glass and tin for select ranges
  • Soft plastic packaging only when necessary for product integrity

Why we use it

Our priority is always to protect freshness, flavour, and food safety. In some cases, packaging must provide strong barriers against moisture and oxygen or meet machinery requirements. Where compostable or recyclable options meet these needs, we use them first.

Where weโ€™re heading

We are actively working toward a fully kerbside recyclable paper solution to replace soft plastics. While we havenโ€™t yet found a material that meets all performance requirements, we continue to invest in innovation and testing.

Stay tuned to our social media channels and
website for updates as this important project progresses.

Whatโ€™s environmentally-friendly about Mrs Rogers eco-packaging?

Mrs Rogers Home Compostable* Packaging is working to align with the NZ Packaging Forum Industry Groupโ€™s compostable standards, letting you shop with confidence while helping protect the environment.

Biodegradable: Made from plants, not plastic, it breaks down in your home compost bin and avoids using non-renewable resources, unlike oil-based plastics.

Compostable: The container and labels are certified to meet NZโ€™s โ€˜Home Compostableโ€™ packaging standards, letting you compost food waste and organic materials together. Plus, it replaces single-use soft plastics, reducing overall waste.

Sustainable: Plant-based materials mean no reliance on oil-based plastics, supporting a renewable future.

How Our Eco Bags Work

Our eco packaging is designed specifically for herbs and spices, where freshness is essential. Mrs Rogers focuses on the most responsible way to package our products and protect the environment.

We recognise we can always do more, but we hope you feel confident shopping with
Mrs Rogers, knowing that we are taking steps to protect the environment.

Why Home Composting Matters

Home composting is one of the most eco-friendly ways to manage food waste, reducing the amount that ends up in landfills while also cutting greenhouse gas emissions like methane, a major contributor to global warming.

Environmental benefits

  • Reduces landfill waste
  • Lowers methane emissions
  • Supports healthier soil systems
  • Encourages circular waste habits

Everyday benefits

  • Less household waste
  • Lower disposal costs
  • Nutrient-rich compost for gardens

Community impact

Composting helps reduce reliance on single-use packaging and
supports cleaner, more sustainable communities.

*Home compostable refers to a package made from materials which can break
down under home composting conditions. When composting at home ensure there is
an environment with heat, moisture, oxygen, soil and microorganisms.
