There’s nothing quite like the smell and taste of freshly baked homemade bread. Try mixing in a new herb or spice you’ve never tried before for your own signature loaf.
Ingredients
-
500g (4 cups) High-grade Flour
-
20g (5 tsps) Sugar
-
24g (8.5 tsps) Mrs Rogers Instant Dry Yeast
-
5g (¾ tsp) Salt
-
220ml-250ml ( 1 cup) Warm Water
-
Optional; 50ml (3 Tbsps) Olive Oil
Directions
Preheat oven to 190°C.
Measure 220ml of warm water and add Mrs Rogers Instant Dry Yeast and Sugar. Mix well and allow it to start to bubble.
Place Flour and Salt into a mixing bowl, then add in the yeast mixture.
Knead dough until it is smooth and stretchy. If you have an electric mixer use a dough hook and run on a low speed for 4-5 minutes. If the dough is dry and not soft add another 30ml of water.
Cover dough and keep in a warm place until it doubles in size.
TIP: You can brush or roll the dough with a little olive oil to prevent drying out.Once the dough has risen to double its original size, knock it back (punch down the risen dough), then roll into desired shape/s and allow to double in size again.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, until a golden crust forms.
Allow bread to cool on a rack before slicing.
Recipe Note
Tips: If using frozen yeast, bring the quantity required in the recipe back to room temperature before using.
Experiment by adding herbs or spices to your homemade bread for a flavourful twist. Try rosemary, thyme, oregano, or basil for savoury flavour, or cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger for a sweet and aromatic bake.
