Feijoa, Pear, Apple & Ginger Chutney

This gorgeous autumn-inspired chutney captures the very essence of the season, making the most of an abundance of feijoas, apples and pears.

Sweet, tangy and gently spiced, it balances the natural fruit sweetness with a rich blend of warming spices and fresh ginger for just the right zesty bite and aroma.

Perfect for an autumn tasting platter, tossed through grilled vegetables, or served as a flavourful side to your favourite curry dishes.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg scooped feijoas
  • 500g pears: peeled cored and roughly chopped into 1cm dice
  • 500g apples (granny smith); peeled cored and roughly chopped into 1cm dice
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Mrs Rogers ground ginger (or 3cm piece fresh ginger peeled and roughly chopped)
  • 1 cup raisins or sultanas
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp Mrs Rogers Sea Salt
  • 1 tsp Mrs Rogers Yellow Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Mrs Rogers Mixed Spice
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine all the ingredients. Leave to stand for an hour to infuse the flavours and soften the fruit.
  2. Bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and simmer on a low heat for 1 – 1 1/2 hours until thickened - it will thicken more as it cools. Stir regularly to prevent the chutney from sticking to the bottom of the pan
  3. Bottle the hot chutney into hot sterilised* jars. Screw on the lids and leave to cool on a wooden surface. The chutney can be stored in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months. Once opened, keep refrigerated and use within 4 weeks.
