Pea and Ham Soup

Yields1 Serving

Traditional Pea and Ham soup is nice, but why not warm things up a little more by adding a little more flavour. Using Mrs Rogers Allspice and Thyme, this soup will certainly disappear fast.

 3 Tbsp Oil
 2 Brown Onions, diced
2 1/3 cups dried Green Split Peas
500g Bacon Bones (can use Hocks)
 3 cups Beef Stock
3 tsp Mrs Roger Garlic Powder
 1 tsp Mrs Rogers Allspice
 4 cups Water
A good grind of Mrs Roger Black Peppercorns Medium Grinder
NOTE: You may need to add more water than stock depending on the saltiness of your bacon bones.
1

Heat the oil in a large pot. Add the onion and fry until starting to brown. Add the peas, bacon bones, stock, garlic powder, allspice, thyme and water and stir to combine. Cover and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 2 hours stirring occasionally, until the peas are soft and the soup is smelling good. Taste and add salt and pepper.

2

Using a stick whizz, break up some of the peas in the soup. Alternatively, remove the bacon bones and use a blender to whizz the soup into a smooth puree. Just remember to return the bones! Serve with crispy bread.

NOTE: Leave the bacons bones whole. It’s nice to have something to chew on.
