Caraway Seeds are used in European Cuisine & have an anise-like flavour. They are a well-known seasoning for bread & also savoury baking.

Suggested Uses

Caraway pairs well with other members of its family; including carrots, cumin, celery and parsley.

Add to North African Harissa for flavour

Use to add flavour to European meat dishes and stews, breads and biscuits.

High in volatile oils, these seeds are big on flavour so a little goes a long way.

Whole spices retain better flavour than ground. Store in the closed ziplock bag until needed and grind using a coffee grinder or mortar and pestle.

The Variety

Caraway is also known as Persian cumin. Caraway seeds are actually the fruit of Carum carvi, in the same family as carrot, cumin, coriander, celery & parsley, native to Central Europe.

Caraway seeds have a pungent earthy anise-like flavour and lightens the flavour of hearty foods like spare ribs, roast goose, pork, mutton, oxtail stew & hearty meat dishes.

It pairs well with cheese, and is an ingredient common in rye bread, sauerkraut and an ingredient in some liquor.
