Spiced Soy Candle

Yields1 Serving

Why not get a bit crafty and have a go at making your own Spiced Soy Candles!

 Glass or Ceramic container
 Soy Wax Melts
 Candle Wicks
 1 Mrs Rogers Star Anise
 1 tsp Mrs Rogers Cloves
 1 stick Mrs Rogers Cinnamon
Small Pot, preferably with a pouring spout
 Spoon for stirring
 Clothes Pegs or Bag Clip
 Candy Thermometer
1

Measure 1 1/2 times the volume of the container you have chosen with soy melts. Tip the measured melts into the small pot.

2

Place the pot on a medium heat and add the cloves and cinnamon stick. Stir until the wax is completely melted. Using the thermometer, heat the wax to 85C. Remove from the heat and set aside for the spices to permeate through the wax.

3

In the container, hold the wick in place using the clothes pegs or bag clip. This needs to be stable enough to allow the wax to set for 6 hours without moving.

4

Pour the wax into the container and position the wick so that it's in the middle. Wait for an hour until the wax is starting to set and place the star anise on the top, pushing it gently into the wax just enough so it’s held. Set aside for at least 6 hours, depending on the size of the container - a bigger candle is going to take longer to set.

5

Once the candle is set, trim the wick to leave approximately 1 1/2 cm. Place in your favourite spot, light and enjoy.

For candle containers, use old jars, cups and anything else that will hold melted wax. Soy wax can be washed with warm soapy water so you can always reuse the container afterwards.
